Various shop fronts on Queen’s Road and the Triangle hosted Renaissance Paint Jam, a street art event with a difference, as Upfest artists took inspiration from Bristol’s 650th anniversary to decorate windows throughout the area, together with a new installation on Broad Quay. 

Visitors can enjoy the new outdoor exhibition over the summer months.  

The project is led by Bristol City Centre BID, working with levy payers throughout the area to bring art to the windows on one of Bristol’s most iconic areas.

Upfest Artists

Inkie

Inkie is a Bristol-bred street artist who self-identifies as an ‘Inventor of Ink Nouveau, Curator of See No Evil, and an all round leisurely gentleman!’ Emerging for the 80s Bristol scene, Inkie came second in the 1989 World Street Art Championships, and has since had his art published in books like Banskys Bristol, Children of the Can and Graffiti World. His diverse works take inspiration from eclectic sources like Mayan architecture, William Morris and Islamic Geometry.

TOZER is a Bristol-based signwriter, who has been creating hand-painted lettering and illustrative works for businesses and personal commissions since 2015. Using traditional material, skills and processes, TOZER aims to bring these techniques into the modern day through her work. From fascias in Cincinnati, to signage for BBC shows, to opening hours for small businesses, her work encompasses a wide range of styles and clients.

Georgie Webster

Georgie is a colourful Bristol artist who creates unique and bright Giclee prints, gifts, and acrylic originals. Her predominant style is painting with acrylics, but she dabbles in a variety of mediums depending on the piece she is creating. Her injection of gold leaf and glitter in work give her pieces a distinctive disco dazzle, and many of her pieces are available for sale online and in businesses throughout Bristol.

Andrew Burns Colwill

Clifton-born painter Andrew’s work offers a skilled reflection of people and modern society. Over the years, he has skillfully developed his technique, utilising materials such as curtain lining stretched over handmade frames and household paints, which have now become his preferred tools. Executed in a classical motif with a refined palate and delicate brush strokes, his works cast a mirror on humans and the world around them.

Originally hailing from Bath, Rose spent her youth surrounded by vibrant creatives in street theatre, which sparked her own interest in the medium. She is now a master of many disciplines creating everything from photo-realistic paintings to abstract projects. Her specialities lie in her unique Popayspective paintings - which see Rose painting snapshots of individual’s homes to immortalise a moment in time - and live event painting.

Weston-Super-Mare born artist Martin D’Arcy is a fine artist and mural artist, whose expertise lies in reproducing natural landscapes for different places like commissioners homes and workplaces. His bespoke murals range from expansive wall murals to beautifully detailed ultraviolet star ceilings, bringing precision and realism to his work. From Disney to Michelangelo, D’Arcy’s mural work is as diverse as it is eye-catching.

Cheba

Cheba specialises in Futuristic spray can expressionism. Cheba began painting the streets of Bristol in the early 2000's. He quickly became addicted to painting the city's landscape and has been a long-standing figure in Bristol's thriving street art culture. Cheba's recent work is heavily inspired by Space, and in particular the Hubble Telescope photos. Nebulas, star clusters and other cosmic beauties feature in his work, blurring the line between representational and abstract.

Aspire Artwork

Aspire is a UK based street artist who specialises in painting incredibly detailed murals, canvases and commissions. Birds are his focus, inspiring his nickname “The Birdman,” and his work brings a touch of nature to every blank canvas he fills. Alongside his feathered subjects, Aspire often integrates pixelation into his pieces, to create a dichotomy of realism and computer generated imagery, all using his painting talents.

Jody is a Bristol based designer and artist. He began painting in the 80s and has since developed a strong, figurative style to create striking murals alongside some of Bristol’s best-known artists. Jody considers himself an aerosol artist, and takes inspiration from fashion and film to create his impressive pieces. Emotional depth is a strong theme throughout much of his work, to create thought-provoking imagery.
