The Bristol Food Connections Festival 2019
From the 12th to the 23rd June the Food Connections Festival will take place all across Bristol. Described as a citywide celebration of food of epic proportions, the festival aims to take visitors on a journey of exploration and discovery of all that is great about food in Bristol (and beyond) through a huge programme of events. The City Centre BID has compiled some of the best events going in the centre here…
When: Thursday 13th June, 7pm-11pm
Where: The Milk Thistle
What to expect: A discussion about social media and PR for people within the food and drink industry, or interested in it, headed up by Marketing and PR agency Duchess Media. Tickets cost £35 and include dinner, a welcome cocktail and a round table discussion with special guest, Bristol burger queen, Natalie Brereton.
When: Friday 14th June, 9am-7pm
Where: Colston Hall
What to expect: A day of masterclasses covering everything you need to consider when growing your business, from PR and marketing to investment case studies and the opportunities of food tourism in Bristol. Book onto individual sessions for £10 a pop, or take part in the whole day for £45 (day tickets include breakfast and lunch!)
When: Saturday 15th June, 10am-10:45am
Where: Colston Hall
What to expect: This free event sees Charlie Johnston, founder of Pistrina Sourdough Bakery, take you through the sourdough bakers process from start to finish. Discuss the importance of fermenting grain and the benefits it has on your gut health with the chef and baker who has years of experience in some of the world’s most prestigious restaurants.
When: Sunday 16th June, 3pm-3:45pm

What to expect: Briony May was launched into the public eye in the 2018 season of The GBBO where she impressed judges all the way to the semi-finals. On the show she cultivated her creativity and skill and became a firm favourite with viewers for her humour, warmth and ingenuity, making her the ideal host to bring some trendy baking skills to life at this free Food Connections event.
When: Tuesday 18th June, 6pm-7:30pm
Where: Friska Harbourside
What to expect: Learn why not all milk is the same and how your milk choices impacts on the lives of farmers and cows at this Food Connections event. In the UK over 80 million pints of milk are poured down the drain every year, and so Food Connections asks us to rethink our relationship with milk, with a blind taste-testing, all for just £5 a ticket.
When: Wednesday 19th June, 2pm-3pm
Where: University of Bristol Theatre Collection
What to expect: Have an informal look at one of the world’s largest archives of British theatre history, including celebrity-signed menus, quirky designs by Oliver Messel for the book ‘Delightful Food’, 1950’s chocolate wrappers found under the floorboards of the Bristol Old Vic to a piece of toast used as advertising at this free Food Connections event!
When: Saturday 22nd June, 11am-12pm, 1pm-2pm
Where: St Nick’s Market
What to expect: Discover the rich food and social history of St Nick’s Market on this free walking tour. Prepare to uncover previous incarnations of the market, from its first construction to its use as a prominent music venue during the 1960’s. This event is free, however spaces are limited so be sure to reserve your space.
When: Saturday 22nd June, 1:30pm-3:30pm
Where: Creative Youth Network, The Silver Station
What to expect: Discover hydroponics, a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent instead of soil, with your family at this interactive workshop. Explore what it takes to get food on your family’s plates, discover the power of your shopping basket and re-imagine the future of food growing. Tickets are £35-£45 per family.
Old City Street Party – Brought to you by the Bristol City Centre BID

Where: Corn Street
What to expect: Experience a traffic-free day in the iconic setting of Bristol’s Corn Street. Enjoy food from local businesses, fun family activities and street entertainment in a shared and relaxed setting – think Food Connections meets Make Sunday Special! This event is free and open to all, just come down and enjoy!
