The World Reimagined launches Globe trail in Bristol

A new UK-wide charitable art project that invites the public to explore the UK’s relationship with the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans is launching in Bristol.

This summer, everyone is invited to take a journey of discovery across Bristol through a sculpture trail that explores the many layers of our shared history.

Running until 31 October, The World Reimagined will transform Bristol’s streets with a free art trail of 10 Globe sculptures – each designed by an individual artist responding to themes ranging from Mother Africa to Still We Rise and Expanding Soul.

Bristol City Centre BID is honoured to be sponsoring the globe positioned in Queens Square and are very proud to be apart of this initiative.

The trail is taking place at the same time as trails in six other cities as The World Reimagined invites people across the UK to acknowledge this history and support the work of community activists and organisations.

Supported by Bristol City Council, the globes will bring people, families, and communities together to talk about how we understand our history, how our past shapes our future, and how we can act for social change.

The Globes have been created by artists from Bristol and across the UK, who will bring the city to life with diverse experiences and creative styles.

Schools have also got involved, with around 14 small globes being featured on the trail created by schools who have taken part in The World Reimagined learning programme.

Connected by a digital platform that enables visitors to dive into a unique heritage collection, the trail stretches from Royal Fort Gardens to St Paul’s, and across the city centre.

We are delighted to welcome The World Reimagined Globes and the conversations they will spark. The trail will help us to consider our city’s legacy, learn about the injustices of the past, and contribute to our ongoing debate about identity and belonging while celebrating Bristol’s diverse and vibrant culture.

The following 10 large Globes make up the trail around central Bristol, which are in the suggested order that people visit them:

  • Maize and Grace by Emma Blake Morsi at Royal Fort Gardens
  • Race by Godfried Donkor at College Green
  • Stolen Legacy: The Rebirth of a Nation by BS51 at Queen Square
  • Hidden Gems by Oshii Rowan at Castle Park
  • Wanderers of the Empire by Bandele Iyapo at Old Market roundabout
  • Legacy by Adam Grose at Trinity Community Arts Centre
  • Like the Sun by Felix ‘FLX’ Braun at Peel Street green space
  • Ascension by Michele Curtis at St Paul’s Learning Centre
  • Foundations by Jasmine Thompson at Grosvenor Road Triangle
  • Under the Skin by 3dom at Broadmead

Local organisations have been keen to make a commitment to racial justice, the arts and education in Bristol, with Bristol City Centre BID, Broadmead BID, GE, GWR, Natracare, Osborne Clarke, the University of Bristol and UWE Bristol joining UK-wide partners, including SKY as Official Presenting Partner and supporters Bloomberg.
