About the BID

The BID team has established solid foundations, developing and growing important relationships that will enable us to deliver best value for our levy payers.

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined geographical area where business rate payers agree to pay a levy into a fund for a fixed period. Specific agreed initiatives are then delivered to improve the area for businesses.

The Bristol City Centre BID was developed through a two-year consultation period culminating in a vote in July 2017. This BID will continue until October 2022, delivering the initiatives outlined in the current business plan. In September 2022 there will be a ballot on the continuation of the BID for a further five years.

The City Centre BID is one of five BIDs in Bristol and more than 300 in the United Kingdom. Nationally, BIDs generate more than £750m, which is invested in delivering local initiatives and improvements over and above those mandated by local authorities.

Mandated in 2017, Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) is a collaboration of 763 levy payers working together to make Bristol an even better place for everyone.

It exists solely to introduce significant improvements for the benefit of levy payers. Its aim is to ensure Bristol city centre is increasingly known for its safe, attractive and welcoming look and feel by all those who work, study, live and spend leisure time in the city.

Our Business Plan for the BID’s first term, 2017-2022, can be found here. Our Business Plan for term 2 will be published shortly.
