October half-term in Bristol

Family friendly activities to enjoy this October half-term.

21/10/2022

There are lots of fun things to explore in the city centre this October half-term from artworks for racial justice to spooktacular lantern parades and autumnal crafts. Check them out below.

THE WORLD REIMAGINED

After such an incredible response to The World Reimagined trails, all 10 Bristol globes have moved to College Green for half term so that you can experience the extraordinary impact of these stunning artworks all in one place.

Suitable for families or culture vultures looking for a day well-spent this Black History Month, make sure to stop by this unique experience before it departs Bristol on Monday 31 October.

Explore The World Reimagined

Whilst you’re in the city, why not treat the family to sweet and savoury waffles or freshly made Gelato from Cowbee or Swoon Gelato which overlooks College Green? Or take a short stroll down to the harbourside to Za Za Bazaar, the biggest restaurant in the UK, for a world banquet where children under 11 dine half price and those under 5 dine free.

BUMP IN THE NIGHT

This Halloween, you are invited to celebrate Bristol’s historical and cultural heritage through a spectacular Bump in the Night Lantern Parade on Sunday 30 October. Inspired by spooky stories of ghosts and giants, the parade of illuminated puppets will travel from Broadmead to Queen Square. To help bring these giant lanterns to life, free-to-attend workshops aimed at all ages and skill levels will be held throughout half-term.

Book a workshop

There’s lots of family friendly places on the parade route including the warm, welcoming interiors at the Cosy Club and the Asian super diner Four Wise Monkeys.

Why not stop by Bella Italia to try out their Piccolo Menu for £6.49, perfect portions for 2-6 year olds, or the Grande Menu at £8.49 for growing 7-11 year olds. Bar + Block also have a child friendly 3 course meal with juice for just £6.50. If you’re more of a deli-fresh foodie head to Bristol Old Vic Kitchen and Bar’s for children meals from £4.50.

CRAFTY CATHEDRAL

Feeling crafty? On Wednesday 26 October you can make your own autumnal crafts at Bristol Cathedral’s Crafty Cathedral event. No need to book, just turn up.

FESTIVAL FOR OUR FUTURE

Join the team from We The Curious in Millennium Square to celebrate the power of collective action around climate change with five days of talks, practical activities, inspirational film screenings and a rather special chain reaction challenge from the Live Science team.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast

Sing along to your favourite songs at Bristol Hippodrome whilst you enjoy Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Whatever you get up to this half-term, we hope you have a great time! Don’t forget to tag us in your adventures.
