Welcome to Bristol…a city that invites you in and never lets you go! We might be biased but nowhere else compares, so congratulations on your new home-from-home.

Welcome to Bristol…a city that invites you in and never lets you go! We might be biassed but nowhere else compares, so congratulations on your new home-from-home.

Whatever course you’ve chosen to study, you’re in for a jam-packed degree…yes of lectures and seminars, but also of shopping, eating, drinking and dancing in the city centre – because that’s what Bristol does best. Time for you to put that to the test…challenge accepted?

The Wardrobe

Whether you’re looking to turn heads on campus in a combo you’ve picked up from a thrift shop or prefer to invest in new and staple pieces that stand the test of time, believe us – your uni wardrobe will be the envy of your mates elsewhere. Top picks: Thrift, Loot Vintage, Sobey’s and British Heart Foundation on Park Street, Flamingos on Wine Street, as well or Finisterre for those golden garms that never get old.

The Food

We hope you’re ready to eat because you’ll be spoilt for choice.

The Old City has been quietly growing into Bristol’s foodie district. From Cosy Club on Corn Street – with famous portraits still in place from its time as a bank – to Honest Burger, sourdough pizza must-try Franco Manca and Pho for delish Vietnamese noodles, this is a spot not to be missed. Head along St Stephen’s Street for some of the hottest new openings of recent years, as well as brilliant cuisine at Four Wise Monkeys or Pasta Ripiena.

The After Dark

We assume you already know that Bristol’s nightlife is a big deal, but if not – our pubs, clubs, bars and live music venues are unrivalled.

Our dub and electronic music is exported across the globe so you should definitely venture beyond the SU. Basement 45 is critical to Bristol’s underground scene thanks to its mixture of D&B nights, dubstep, UK funky, techno and house. We’re also sure you’ll frequent Lakota, and no ‘big night out’ is complete without a trip to water-side club, Pryzm or the ever-popular Mr Wolfs

For live music, St George’s Bristol features a huge range of artists playing in a 200-year-old Georgian church, and check out the line-up at Bristol institution, Thekla

If live theatre and film is what you’re on the lookout for, whilst you’re on King Street why not take in a show at the UK’s oldest working theatre, Bristol Old Vic after a round of alfresco drinks at Small Bar or The Old Duke. You can’t miss its glorious interior and buzzing theatre bar. Another must-visit nearby is Bristol Hippodrome, where world-class touring shows frequent the stage – or head for some indie cinema at the Watershed, right on the water’s edge.

Now, go and have a ball – and take care of yourself and your mates. Check out our very own Bristol Rules for your guide to a safe night out in Bristol. Remember, the best nights are the ones you remember!
