We are very excited that Bristol artist Luke Jerram’s latest art installation can be seen on College Green, Bristol until 17th October.
The BID has been supporting the project which has been organised by the Arts & Culture Programme at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), Bristol’s City Centre & High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme funded by Bristol City Council, and theLove our High Streets project from West of England Combined Authority, to bring the artwork ‘In Memoriam’ to Bristol.
The installation of over 100 flags made from NHS hospital bed sheets was conceived not only as a tribute to the work of the NHS health and social care staff and volunteers, but also a memorial to the looses experienced during the pandemic.
It has toured throughout the UK and Europe and now to Bristol. Luke told us how happy he is to have finally brought the artwork home.
He explained that he wanted it to reflect changing moods and atmospheres according to the weather and how visitors interact with it. He wanted to create a space and moment in time for personal and shared reflection.
Our Love Bristol campaign invites everyone back to the city centre and all the amazing shops, restaurants and bars that they missed during the lockdowns.
In Memoriam is a beautiful multi-sensory experience that looks stunning on College Green. We encourage everyone to explore it while also remembering to be kind, safe and respectful of each other’s space.
