Comedy for a cause – Bristol City Centre BID x Belly Laughs

£3,625 raised for TAP for Bristol in one evening.

To combat any January blues, this month we teamed up with Belly Laughs to bring entertainment with a good cause to King Street and Welsh Back businesses with a one-off comedy night to help raise money for TAP For Bristol.

On Monday 16 January we partnered with Belly Laughs for Comedy on the Cobbles, Belly Laughs’ biggest ever one-night event, with a cracking sell-out evening of laughs, drinks and food at several venues in the heart of the city centre.

This second year of Comedy on the Cobbles saw some of the finest comedians from Bristol and across the UK join in for a jam-packed night of comedy, including local as well as national talent. Taking to the stage across various venues were renowned TV comedian, Russell Howard, as well as Belly Laughs mastermind Mark Olver and Bristol-based Capriella Hooper alongside many more.

With the first £5 from every Comedy on the Cobbles ticket sale going straight to TAP For Bristol, the 735 tickets for the King Street and Welsh Back events raised a whopping £3,625 for the charity. QR codes, donation buckets and card readers were all available at each spot to raise extra funds, meaning the final total money raised will be even higher.

Tickets for the 10 venues taking part ranged from £5 to £20 depending on the location and add-ons, with some tickets including extra goodies such as pizza, burgers and beer – with the additional money going straight back to the Bristol venue.

At the beginning of January we also hosted a special lunch filled with laughter for our levy payers alongside Belly Laughs. Held at Bristol Folk House on Park Street, the team generously prepared a hot lunch for our guests as they got a lunch break that left them howling. Raising £275, this too provided much-needed funding for TAP For Bristol, the homelessness prevention cause in partnership with Caring in Bristol and Redcliffe and Temple BID.
