A look back on 2022 BID safety initiatives

2022 has been a busy year for safety.

Our dedicated PCSO, Nat Naylor, has been with us now for a year and has made over 1000 engagements with over 100 different businesses. He has provided a proactive and committed service to our levy payers responding to requests for support in relation to business crime. We have had some really positive feedback from these businesses for his commitment and advice. A big thank you goes out to Nat for his hard work.

The Streetwise team continues to work hard at providing support and advice to members of the street community, over 200 people have been referred for housing support and over 100 have been referred for substance misuse support. 56 community protection warnings and 3 Criminal Behaviour Orders have been issued.

There are now over 190 radios distributed across the Bristol city centre area connecting the three BID areas and the two key shopping centres that link directly to the Operations Centre if required.

Four active collaborative safety campaigns over the past year have had a large impact across the city; these are the Drink Spiking, Women’s Safety, Water Safety, and Student Safety. These collectively would not have been possible without our partners; Bristol City Council, Bristol Nights, Avon and Somerset Police, Avon Fire and Rescue, The University of Bristol and University of West of England. Together we are working together to make Bristol safer.

These campaigns have had a significant impact to the city and the Drink Spiking campaign has influenced national police policy across 43 forces which is a real success. 500 people from 110 night-time economy businesses have attended the Anti-Sexual Harassment training and the water safety partnership continues spread joint messaging about the dangers in the harbour.
