Many happy returns – and singles! First passengers encouraged to sign up for free bus travel

Wanting to get out and explore Bristol, or save some pennies on your commute? Make the most out of your birthday month with your free Birthday Bus Pass!

27/07/2023

Starting this month, residents of the Bristol area will be able to claim free bus rides throughout the entirety of their birthday month (Summer babies win again). This new £8-million plan, announced by the West of England Combined Authority will give locals a free bus pass for a month.

Residents of the West of England can now apply for their FREE birthday bus pass online which will be valid on all buses across the West of England throughout the whole month of your birthday.

Anyone from the age of 5 living in the West of England is now eligible to apply for free bus travel on participating services for the month their birthday falls in. All you have to do is apply at least 7 days before the first day of your birthday month. But you can still apply after that – right up to the 15th, and still get a pass for the rest of that month.

Whether you use your Birthday Bus pass for the daily commute or a weekend trip out, it will be a help during the difficult cost-of-living crisis. The scheme is also designed to assist in the region’s wider ambition to grow bus passenger numbers and cut carbon emissions.

The Birthday Buses were set in place to encourage new people to hop on the bus and try it out – perhaps for a regular commute, to go to the shops, a restaurant, or to spend their weekends enjoying the amazing attractions and great beauty of our region. With more people  using buses, it helps to cut congestion, pollution and noise – and meet 2030 net-zero targets.
