In May 2024 alone, TAP for Bristol donated £20,000 of funding across three homelessness support charities: Emmaus Bristol, Survivors Leading Essential Education & Change (SLEEC) and Caring in Bristol. £5,000 each was distributed to SLEEC and Emmaus, while £10,000 went to Caring in Bristol towards its Z-House project, which provides short-term accommodation for young people experiencing homelessness whilst they secure move-on options. An additional £1,000 was provided to support the printing of Caring in Bristol’s Caring Handbooks. These handbooks provide vital information on agencies across Bristol who provide support for those who are homeless.

Today, Thursday 10 October, is World Homeless Day and to mark this, Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) is reflecting on another year of success after donating over £40,000 to homelessness charities in just 12 months.
The initiative, which helps vulnerable people in Bristol, was founded in 2019 and is the result of a collaboration between Bristol City Centre BID and Caring in Bristol, with additional support from Redcliffe & Temple BID since 2023. People in Bristol can donate using one of the TAP points on business premises across the BID areas, or donations can be made online via the JustGiving page.
Since October 2023, TAP for Bristol has donated over £40,000 in grants, to fund both prevention and crisis projects, for local homelessness charities. The initiative has reached in excess of 1,100 direct beneficiaries as a result of funding provided to Caring in Bristol for its prevention projects. Additionally, 772 individuals have been supported from grants supplied to local homelessness charities to aid those in emergency need.
More recently, in September 2024, TAP for Bristol allocated funding to The Nelson Trust, a local charity dedicated to supporting women in crisis. The funding will support The Nelson Trust’s Bristol Emergency Fleeing Fund, which provides vital resources to women escaping domestic abuse, including emergency mobile phones, transportation to critical appointments, safe accommodation and essential items like food and toiletries.
Vicky Lee, Head of Bristol City Centre BID, said:
“On World Homeless Day, we’re continuing our work to support vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in our city. Donations from people in Bristol at our TAP points are invaluable to us being able to provide continuous funding to those who need it most and we encourage local charities to apply for funding for their emergency projects.”Steve Bluff, Head of Redcliffe & Temple BID, said:
“Supporting the TAP for Bristol initiative from the Redcliffe and Temple area has allowed the initiative to reach more vulnerable people in Bristol. The charities that receive funding from TAP do incredible and important work and we are committed to supporting them in their continued efforts.”World Homeless Day is marked every year on 10th October to draw attention to the needs of those experiencing homelessness around the world.
