Watch our new festive film 'Somewhere Special', featuring two of Bristol's most iconic shopping streets...
This is a street to fall in love with for the first or fiftieth time’ says Vanessa Kisuule, Bristol City Poet 2018 – 2020.
It’s a line from her new poem, which is a seasonal love letter to Park Street and Queens Road commissioned by City Centre BID to feature in our 2019 festive film ‘Somewhere Special’.
The film offers an enticing glimpse into Christmas shopping, sightseeing and socialising on two of Bristol’s most iconic shopping streets. It has been funded by BID and created by Bristol-based digital communications specialists Vaughan and Company.
Watch Vanessa writing about Park Street’s ‘gentle buzz, its quirky joys and bracing tilt’ as she sits in the window of award-winning bakery Pinkmans. You’ll spot other local favourites too, including Pizzarova, design emporium The Guild and cocktail bar and restaurant The Lost & Found, as well as a cheeky cameo by Banksy’s Well-hung Lover.
Keith Rundle, City Centre BID Operations Director, said: ‘We wanted a film that would highlight Park Street and Queens Road as somewhere special to get together, choose gifts and share good times at Christmas. It’s a historic area crammed with a strong creative culture and independent specialists, and that really comes across in the finished film. Vanessa’s poem is a fitting accolade for the area and will resonate with anyone who has been there, while Ryan Vaughan and his team have captured the essence of it on screen.’
We’re sharing the film through our digital channels over the coming weeks to inspire local people and visitors to experience this unique Bristol area as it twinkles beneath the Christmas lights…
‘Come: there’s bellies to fill
cocktails to sip, the perfect gift
for a fussy friend
on a shelf, beckoning.’
