About the BID

Now in its second term, the BID has established solid foundations, developing and growing important relationships that will enable us to deliver best value for our levy payers.

WHAT IS A BID

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined geographical area where business rate payers agree to pay a levy into a fund for a fixed period. Specific agreed initiatives are then delivered to improve the area for businesses.

The Bristol City Centre BID was developed through a two-year consultation period culminating in a vote in July 2017. There was a ballot on the continuation of the BID in September 2022 where businesses voted ‘yes’ to another five year term.

Bristol City Centre BID is one of five BIDs in Bristol and more than 300 in the United Kingdom. Nationally, BIDs generate more than £750m, which is invested in delivering local initiatives and improvements over and above those mandated by local authorities.

OUR MISSION

Mandated in 2017, with a successful renewal ballot in 2022, Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) is a collaboration of levy payers working together to make Bristol an even better place for everyone.

It exists solely to introduce significant improvements for the benefit of levy payers. Its aim is to ensure Bristol city centre is increasingly known for its safe, attractive and welcoming look and feel by all those who work, study, live and spend leisure time in the city.

Our vision is for a better Bristol – A future-focused city that attracts business, investment, and people to create a resilient and welcoming city for all.
