After four years of service, more than 25,000 hours of street cleansing and the removal of nearly 6,000 unwanted graffiti tags, the Bristol City Centre BID milk float has performed its final duty and is ready to make way for its shiny upgrade. Enter Ghost Dusters.

Named by the people of Bristol as part of a competition to encourage the public to keep an eye out for the vehicle fighting slime and grime in the city, Ghost Dusters is an electric super-van. It will continue to work on improving and maintaining the appearance of the city, working to maintain  the standard set by the much-loved milk float.

Now that the van has been named, it is being wrapped with a design that lives up to its 80s cinematic inspiration. The ghostly, slime-printed van is set to be a sight to behold as it continues  to keep Bristol’s city centre spotless for its local businesses, residents and visitors.

Luke Oakes was the Bristol resident and mastermind behind the name Ghostdusters, offering the suggestion as part of a competition held on Bristol City Centre BID’s social channels. As well as getting to name the new vehicle, Luke also received a £100 Love Bristol gift card, redeemable in over 160 businesses across the city.

Luke said:

“I wanted to enter the competition to help give the vehicle a new lease of life. The milk float has been such a staple of Bristol cleaning culture and it felt deserving of a worthy successor so I’m really happy to have played a part in that. It’s been great to see Ghost Dusters hit the road this month!”

Vicky Lee, head of Bristol City Centre BID, said:

“We were blown away by the number of entries we received, and the creativity shown, to name our new vehicle. We are very proud of our dedicated cleansing team, who work so hard to keep Bristol gleaming, and we’re glad to be providing them with an upgrade that matches their incredible devotion to their work. This van is quite the step up from the milk float which had no heating, making for some chilly winters for the team. Now, we can’t wait to see Ghost Dusters get out there to strut its cleansing stuff to help maintain our city streets.”

Ghost Dusters certainly ain’t afraid of no dust, so keep your eyes out for its first sweep of the city centre on 20th July 2023.
